Why we invested in Frinks AI

We are pleased to lead a $5.4M pre-series A investment in Frinks AI . From tinkering at IIT Hyderabad lab in early days, Aditya, Dharmagya and Subhra have come a long way in building a global scale manufacturing tech product leveraging AI at its core. And we are super stoked to partner with them in that journey.

Frinks AI enables manufacturers to seamlessly integrate advanced AI for quality control and visual inspection, ensuring unparalleled quality and consistency in manufacturing

Manufacturing is an industry built on precision, yet one of its most critical quality control processes – visual inspection – remains surprisingly analog. Legacy machine vision systems operate on outdated rule-based template matching technology. These systems lack contextual understanding, operate only in highly controlled environments with repeatable patterns, exhibit high false alert rates (~90% accuracy), and have very limited application (only 15-20% of manufacturing use-cases are addressed).

While factories globally have embraced automation across production lines, they rely heavily on human visual cognition for critical functions and combine human + rule based computer vision systems to reduce defect rates. Human accuracy peaks at 85% due to fatigue and biases, leading to avoidable rework, scrap and product recalls and, more importantly, damaged brand reputation - costs that far exceed the inspection process itself.

When we met the Frinks AI team, we realized they had cracked the code on one of manufacturing's oldest challenges: achieving superhuman accuracy in visual inspection while making it scalable and affordable. The product has two core parts:

  • Foundational vision model with unique training framework and proprietary vision algorithms designed for flexibility, real-time performance (latency <100ms)
  • No-code platform to build visual inspection projects, train and deploy domain/use-case specific custom vision AI models. The platform enables specific model training and custom workflows to meet customers’ unique requirements.

What sets Frinks apart is their integrated approach spanning assembly line inspection, cosmetic defect detection, dimensioning, and label verification. Rather than offering point solutions, they've built a comprehensive platform that addresses the full spectrum of visual inspection needs. The product is vertically integrated and seamlessly connects with the existing factory systems for comprehensive automation and data management, supporting all aspects of the existing manufacturing processes. It also offers detailed analytics for root-cause analysis, process optimization and traceability, which is lacking in legacy products.

By leveraging the foundation model fine-tuned on customer use-case specific data through a no-code platform Frinks is able to demonstrate value quickly to its customers and guarantees 99.99% accuracy. The strong customer love for the product came out very clearly during our conversations.

Frinks already counts manufacturing giants across cement, automotive, consumer goods etc industries as customers and seeing rapid expansion across their assembly lines. With this fundraise, the company plans to take its platform to global manufacturers which struggle with similar issues. It will also invest in R&D to further expand its product lead.
